Abstract : Esthetic dentistry has gained popularity in recent years as more and more people focus on perfect smile. A smile lined with white and shimmering teeth makes a person feel more confident and attractive.
Tooth discoloration results in considerable esthetic impairment. These stains or defects may be due to hypoplasia, amelogenesis imperfecta, mineralized white spots or fluorosis. Various treatment modalities have been advocated to restore the normal color of the tooth which include microabrasion, direct or indirect composite veneers amongst which bleaching is noninvasive and effective procedure.2 Different types of energy sources are used for in-office bleaching procedures to increase the rate of chemical release of oxidative radicals. Laser-assisted tooth bleaching is currently becoming a preferred treatment modality.3 The paper explores the use of lasers in vital tooth bleaching. Lasers have been found to be highly effective with no reports of post operative sensitivity or pain.
